118 | A field of susuki set against a twilight sky. SE <<Running through grass>> |
Reichu: Susuki is Japanese pampas grass, a trademark of the Hakone countryside. (It can also be found in various other places it probably shouldn't be.) |
|---|---|---|---|
119 | Missing Number: Kensuke running through the susuki. |
Reichu: That's an aerial shot, in case you can't tell. |
(repeat) |
120 | Kensuke shouting. He quickly thrusts his body into
the foreground. Kensuke "Dadadadadada!!" |
Sharp-kun: Ah, youth... Soluzar: Youth be damned; Kensuke is as nutty as a fruitcake. How many kids play war all on their own? He's an unhinged loon, I tell you! He's also sort of impossible to dislike. I don't know why. Maybe because Kensuke is my kind of eccentric tech-nerd. ;) Dr. Nick: I used to play war alone when I was a kid, since I was a little moron. And I didn't have any fancy guns or other gadgets, just sticks and stones. Luckily, retardedness was mostly beaten out of me in junior high, and I grew up to be the fine male specimen I am today. |
121 | Kensuke (almost completely silhouetted)
bends backwards and collapses. Kensuke "Uwaaa!!" |
Reichu: The best part of the episode. I mean, come on. It's Kensuke playing with himself! Sharp-kun: That pun makes Sharp-kun cry. T_T Treize X: I LOVE this sequence. It's SO funny. Mr. Tines: Ah, sweet cliché, reminiscent of every tale of GIs slogging their way up past Monte Cassino (a common setting for war comics in my youth). Otaprince: This scene reminds me of the airgun game in FLCL, which is also played in a field, and of the scene in Honneamise. [Pic] OMF: Also, the sound effects for the grass is quite well done. Good foley work here. |

He gets up. |

Then he rolls over, striking a pose with half his body
raised. |
Then he gets up and assumes a grieving pose. |
He rolls again and punches. |

Reaction to getting struck. |

123 | Kensuke looks at the sky, agape. SE (OFF) <<Sound of distant pampas grass rustling>> |
thewayneiac: Yep, Kensuke's a strange duck. Reichu: Lying in the grass and watching the evening sky is a rather appealing "down with nature'" sort of thing to do. I would do it more often if I weren't afraid of attracting a certain blood-sucking arachnid. (Lyme's isn't fun.) OMF: I've just realised, I haven't done this in years. Must arrange a sky staring session soon. |
122 | Looking up at the sky from within the pampas grass. | |
124 | Kensuke gets up. Kensuke "Upsy-daisy..." He stands, lifting his model gun. Kensuke notices something in our direction. Kensuke "!!" |
Reichu: Kensuke looks like a servant of the undead in the bottom shot. Mr. Tines: Last sunlight reflecting off lenses -- just like Gendo. Reichu: Although with the gun (which, in silhouette, we wouldn't know is just a model) slung at his side, Kensuke actually looks somewhat more ominous. Heresy, I know. |
125 | Kensuke looks, straining his eyes. Kensuke "...The new kid?" |
Treize X: This is the only time we ever see Kensuke in his military fatigues. |
126 | Kensuke in front; Shinji plods wearily along. | thewayneiac: Okay, I only allow one violation of the law of incredible coincidence per episode, and this is it. |
127 | Kensuke greets him familiarly. Kensuke "Ikari!?" |
128 | Shinji looks. | |
129A | Shinji looking, stunned. |
Sharp-kun: Stunned by what? Meeting Kensuke, or the idea that someone actually recognises him? Hexon.arq: Stunned by the incredible coincidence thewayneiac called. |
